DIGIREAL is a Research & Development (R&D) Center about Digital Realities for societal-ecological-economic impact, funded by NWO/SIA-SPRONG. SIA-SPRONG aims to strengthen and professionalize the R&D-activities and R&D-organizations of Universities of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands.
FONTYS University of Applied Sciences works together with Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas) in the MINDLABS ecosystem. Other public, private and network partners have joined DIGIREAL with specific sectoral challenges, expertise and lab-infrastructure.
Digital Realities is an umbrella term for data-driven, intelligent, interactive, and immersive digital environments (D3I). These may come under different labels such as Serious Games, Interactive Simulations, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality applications, Metaverses, and more.
The DIGIREAL R&D program has three main topics:
1. Virtual Humans
2. Digital Social Realities
3. Digital Twins
DIGIREAL distnguishes itself by understanding DR as an integrated, socio-technical artifact, with questions and innovation challenges that are primarily inter-organizational and cross-sectoral.
